Open Call for Index, Biennial of Art and Technology

Index is a Biennial of Art and Technology, part of the programme of the city of Braga as a UNESCO Creative City for Media Arts.

Index are interested in exploring artistic practices and critical thinking in which technology assumes a central role.

The 2022 edition of Index will thematically explore the notion of ‘Surface’. Either as visual platforms or haptic entities, boundaries or interfaces, zones of emergence or extraction, Surfaces represent vital elements of both human and natural ecosystems. They also constitute powerful metaphors for artistic practices concerning technology, raising important issues that urgently need to be addressed.

Through a diverse programme that includes exhibition, performance, discourse and education derivations, we’ll present our individual perspective about Art and Technology on Contemporaneity, placing the Surface as central.

This open call aims to select and support artistic proposals in the intersection between Art and Technology with close affinities with the biennial’s theme, to be exhibited online.

More than just a transposition of works and conventional presentation formats to a virtual domain, Index are looking for proposals that explore the possibilities and specificities of the online ecosystem as an exhibition platform for artworks.

The proposals selected via the INDEX 2022 Open Call will be granted 2500 Euros and their works will be presented online as part of the Exhibition programme. Selected works must be delivered by 1 April 2022.
