It is a truth universally acknowledged that, when we use language, we have to tailor our explanation according to the system we are addressing. It is a pre-requirement to make sense – to make a meaning meaningful. But what if we didn’t? In our everyday life, our screens – as active surfaces of communication – open up doorways to multiple worlds, popping-up, as worlds within worlds. Such ‘ways of seeing’ or ‘navigating’ are not restricted only to our screens, but they spill over all the time. So, what if instead you are about to encounter a web of hybrid aesthetics: talking heads uttering in mismatched poetry, a dystopian sci-fi field of alien dogs, temporary communication codes that fall out of your understanding, and questions about lost digits that used to populate our money?

Ultimately, fiction has to do with an urge to believe in something, even though it is made of pixels, scribbles, discourses, material threads or pieces of traveling papers. And like any co-existing worlds, make-believes don’t run the need to constantly be explained away. Maybe, the trick is to just let these clashing fictions happen.

For safety issues, the exhibition can be visited only by appointment at [email protected] or 0744261058 (Flaviu), 0758516614 (Thea) between 13 and 27.11.2020.

In Parallel Universes Different Things Happen is part of Aici Acolo‘s 2020 program, Fictions of Tech & Life –  Aici Acolo exhibitions explore fiction as an instrument of reframing the every day, our mediation through technology, encounters, and the narratives that shape our contemporary society. The extended curatorial project brings together exhibitions, micro-residences, and connected conversational – events to better grasp and ask how do we connect with technology from the warmth of our bodies outward.
