Cezar Mocan

It’s been well over 10 years since Cezar Mocan (b. 1993) is an artist and computer programmer. Using software, video and game engines, his work questions the power structures that shape society’s engagement with technology, and is particularly focused on the role branding and Silicon Valley discourse play in informing contemporary ideologies. Cezar holds an undergraduate degree from Yale University and recently completed his post-graduate studies in new media art at New York University.

Fall (I Fell in Love with my Avatar) / Simulation Preview, Cezar Mocan

Fall (I Fell in Love with my Avatar) is a real-time, non-interactive simulation which romanticizes the simpler life of a virtual being in a post-capitalist internet. In a deserted digital backyard, a bohemian half-cat, half-human avatar is stuck riding on a swing, while coping with feelings of joy, exhaustion and frustration. As you witness her perpetual swinging, a short letter unfolds.

Dynamic Links continues our main initiative to commission Romanian digital artists for new works. This was coordinated by Nicoleta Mureș, one of the artists that were part of our portfolio and previously commissioned for our website. Thus, continuing our purpose to create a network of digital artists that help and grow together. With the intention to support more interactive endeavors, the current project brought together programmers and digital artists that collaborated in the creation of one desktop interactive application. The works will be available on our website spam-index.com.

Dynamic Links is funded by the National Cultural Fund Administration and does not necessarily represent the position of the AFCN. AFCN is not responsible for the content of the project or how the results of the project may be used. These are entirely the responsibility of the beneficiary of the funding.
